Ogilvy Reigns Supreme at WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship
Ogilvy King of Matchplay Once Again! Geoff Ogilvy has won the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship for the second time in four years beating Paul Casey of England 4 & 3 in the final on Sunday. The win earns Ogilvy $1.4 million and moves him up to 4th in the World Golf Rankings. It takes his 2009 season earnings to $2,672,077 and also vaults him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings. The 31-year-old Aussie put in a dominant performance at Dove Mountain, going bogey-free over the last 57 holes and not trailing for the final 62 holes of the tournament. Ogilvy beat a number of quality players en route to the final versus Casey including Kevin Sutherland, Shingo Katayama, Camilo Villegas, Rory Mcllroy and Stewart Cink. "I played very well this weekend- I played the best 72 holes I've ever played at Kauri…it's almost as if I played as good this week as I had there" said a delighted Ogilvy, referring to his wire-to-wire win at the season-opening Mercedes Benz Championship. His stats over the last 56 holes are a testament to his supreme ball-striking performance this week: 22 birdies, 2 eagles and just 1 bogey. Ogilvy's dominant record in this championship- now standing at 17-2, and his incredible start to the season had the media and fans alike eager to learn about his 'secret' to success. However, Geoff is much too level-headed a player and person to claim to have a magic pill solution. He prefers to quietly go about his work and let the results speak for themselves. His golf training program and focus on golf fitness gained plenty of attention in the media this week- a program that includes golf specific training on the LeaderBoard. Here is what Geoff has to say about the LeaderBoard:
"The LeaderBoard has been a part of my tournament preparation for the past two years. It is the most versatile training device I have ever used, and proved invaluable in the lead up to my victory in the U.S. Open. The exercises train those golf specific muscles to 'fire' at the right times, resulting in greater accuracy and longer hitting. I love it." Ogilvy has sure 'fired' at the right times this season- he heads to Doral in a couple of weeks to defend his CA Championship title brimming with confidence.
